Imtech were engaged to deliver an infrastructure upgrade to two buildings at a Data Centre in the North West. Due to the nature of the client business, a constant power supply is essential. Whilst both buildings currently have a power supply and generators, there was a need to increase building resilience, requiring an extra generator for each building.
Following our appointment, we worked collaboratively with the client to devise a delivery plan. To ensure realisation of the plan, we story boarded the project to highlight the necessary steps through to changeover and maintained an enhanced level of stakeholder communication using ‘Bluebeam’. Throughout project delivery the site had to remain live to ensure that continuity of service to the data centre was maintained with no loss in resilience.
This was a project successfully completed utilising an innovative delivery approach to overcome various challenges including limiting the noise of works to surrounding tenants, creating building modifications and orchestrating a significant amount of preplanning, adhering to the client’s strict Permit to Work system.
Additionally, it was necessary to construct an extension to one of the buildings to house the additional generator panel as well as further modifications to the existing building in order to house the extra generator. Within the second building, the existing plinth was replaced to allow for the new panels and a generator, as well as re-weatherproofing the existing flat roof. Further works included upgrading the oil tanks and the existing generators.
