Imtech Engineering Services are delivering the M&E services at the iconic BBC Television Centre in London’s White City. The building is being converted into a mixed-use development providing 950 new homes, 500,000 sq ft of Grade A offices, along with restaurants, a hotel, cinema and television studios.
During the pre-construction phase the team collaborated with all project stakeholders to establish how they could deliver added value. This led to identifying that off-site manufacturing could be utilised to minimise on-site installation time, reduce resource requirements and create a safer working environment.
The team collaborated with designers from Ormandy to specify requirements and design bespoke cupboards containing all the necessary utilities. The resulting innovative design ensured a quicker, easier installation of a fully equipped prefabricated unit easily integrated with all relevant services.
Following this collaboration Ormandy have added this type of full-service utility cupboard to its product range. Launching the innovative units at the industry-leading Offsite Construction Show.
“Creating these innovative, bespoke units has the potential to realise efficiency savings of up 20% on installation time.”

Located on the corner of Whitworth Street and Princess Street, the Manchester New Square project consists of 351 flats across three buildings, aimed at the high-end residential market. Appointed by the main contractor Lendlease for our proactive and cost-effective approach, we were responsible for the complete design and installation of the mechanical and electrical services installation.
Working collaboratively with the client from the inception of the project, we engaged initial construction and design teams to provide early cost plan advice and established a robust technical proposal from which the project progressed.
A logistically challenging site meant that this project was especially complex for two key reasons. Firstly, the site already had a fully constructed four-storey basement that created challenges for installation due to the constricted space to work in. Working collaboratively with the design team in the early stages on the project enabled us to find solutions including the use of off-site prefabrication. Secondly, careful consideration also had to be applied when considering our logistics strategy to deliver materials and equipment to site.
The project was successfully handed over in April 2021 and revived an historic part of Manchester which had laid dormant for a number of years. The end result has been the delivery of a quality project to the satisfaction of the client.
G3 Square in Minerva Street, Glasgow, has become one of the best-performing residential areas in the UK, owing to its proximity to the University of Glasgow and as a key part of the West End. A three-phase project, the final development will feature 108 apartments and penthouses within a landscaped outdoor space. The development will rise to six stories, with car parking and lift access to all levels.
With the project in phase 1, Imtech are currently on site leading the building services package to deliver the mechanical and electrical installation in the apartments, working collaboratively with the Main Contractor Ogilvie, the developer Drum Developments and the M&E designer Henderson Warnock.
With phase 1 successfully progressing on budget despite the challenges of Covid-19, we are engaged to deliver the next two phases including a further 110 apartments due to start on site July 2021. Phase 1 is due for completion in July 2021 following an extension to the project resulting from the impact of the pandemic.
